Happy Dad's Day!
Today we celebrate all the dads, father figures, and homegrown heroes, who make us laugh with cheesy dad jokes, always offer solid advice, and are there whenever we need.

"Father's Day is extremely special for us as gay men. I think it might be hard for most people to understand, but for most of human history - until the 1970s really - men like us weren't able to have children. And now, here we are, receiving Father's Day cards from our twins after they arrive home from daycare. We don't take this opportunity for granted. We know we're blessed to be alive at a time in history where this is possible, fulfilling a lifelong dream of raising children to the very best of our abilities. It's truly a beautiful day where we sit back and think... this is for all the gay men who came before us who didn't have this beautiful chance to experience the gift of fatherhood."

"My Tata has been my greatest ally since the very beginning. Perhaps without him even being aware of it. When I was little and obsessed with fashion, he bought me a sewing machine. When all the boys were playing footy, he encouraged me to keep dancing. When gay teenage me was obsessed with Destiny’s Child, he took me to their concert and danced by my side to Independent Woman.
When I came out as gay at 19, he wanted to understand why I felt how the way I did and reminded me that just because I was gay, he was still my Dad and I should feel free to come to him with any questions about sex. When I came out as non-binary he told me that I had always been this way and he would never stop loving me.
I don’t know what I did in a previous life to deserve you being my Father in this one - but I thank my lucky stars every day for you. I regularly say a little prayer of gratitude that whilst other ethnic Dad’s could have kicked me out of their lives, you sit here proudly next to your non-binary son in a leopard print dress and tell them that they look beautiful in between takes. You my darling Dad are the beautiful one. A man who displays more levels of unconditional love than I have ever witnessed in a human. I love you."

Father’s Day has never been a conventional holiday for my family. Instead we take the day to acknowledge and appreciate a woman who has had to be both a mother and a father to my brother and I. Shoutout to all the mums who take on both roles and anyone who’s had to step in as a father figure in someone’s life. This day is for you too!! ❤️
